The Law Society of Hong KongLaw Week

Bilingual registration and event management for the Law Society of Hong Kong's Law Week, plus the Smart Challenge — a gamified legal knowledge quiz running a week of daily tasks, topic quizzes, a treasure hunt and live leaderboards for students.

Brief

Law Week is the Law Society of Hong Kong's annual campaign to bring law closer to everyday life. It opened with the Teen Talk 10th Anniversary & Law Week Opening Ceremony, held online, where legal professionals met student participants over Zoom. Around it, the public could register for legal advice and community talk sessions, each with its own schedule of times and venues.

Alongside the events, students could join the Legal Knowledge Smart Challenge: a timed online quiz competition with daily tasks, quiz rounds and mini-games, and prizes worth over HK$100,000.

Every flow had to work in two languages, from the first registration form to the last leaderboard.

Background

The whole campaign moved online. Registration lists arrived as spreadsheets and had to become confirmed attendees — invitations sent, duplicates avoided, resends possible when an email did not arrive.

The quiz was a separate problem: registrations tied to school districts, game sets that had to open and close on schedule, scores recorded from every play, and winners that could not be worked out by hand.

How we approached it

We built the campaign as one system with two fronts: events and registration on one side, the games on the other, sharing a backend.

For the events, a registration platform handled the journey from list to attendee: bulk import, event, venue and time management, and email flows with sendout and resend when needed.

For the competition, a separate game engine kept registration, quotas, scoring and winners together. Quizzes, a treasure hunt and a referral programme each had their own rules, while a scoring service recorded every play and kept the leaderboard live.

What we built

Event registration: bilingual flows for the Teen Talk 10th Anniversary & Law Week Opening Ceremony, legal advice and community talk sessions, with success handling and email resend.

Email operations: bulk list import, blast sendout and resend flows for invitation campaigns.

Smart Challenge: daily quizzes, topic-based quiz rounds (poster and video), a treasure hunt, a referral programme, quota-controlled game sets, a scoring engine and live leaderboards.

Winner management: imports for student, referral and school winners, plus individual, referral and school score exports for the organisers.

Result

Law Week ran on these platforms: registration for the opening ceremony and talk sessions worked in two languages, and the Smart Challenge ran its full week of timed quizzes, tasks and mini-games, with scores, leaderboards and winners managed from the backend.

Takeaway

A campaign that mixes events, talks and a quiz only works when registration, scoring and winners live in one system — especially when the whole week is online.
